The Ugly Monsters and The Corpse

It is my pleasure to share one of my favourite Sabahan horror story..it's hard to believe if this story really happened in the past or just to prevent children to roam around at night..but really.! it gives me goose bumps everytime i read this..Yaii..!!

     There was once a man who had a beautiful wife.  She had several admires in the village where they lived,  thereby making her husband extremely jealous.  He was so jealous that he decided to keep his wife in a house built deep in the forest.  However, they had only move in for a week when he suddenly died.

  Despite his jealous ways,  the widow loved him so much that she did not want to part with the dead body.  So she kept it in the house.  But she was so unhappy and depressed each time she looked into the eyes of her dead husband.  They were wide open and seemed to follow her wherever she went.  Although they frightened her, they also reminded her of the happy days they had together when he was still alive.

     As day passed, the look in his eyes became more and more frightening.  At times, she was so scared that she would go to her bedroom and lock herself in.  She began to imagine horrible things which made her all the more frightened.  She wanted to shout for help but it was useless.  As she was too scared to walk out of her bedroom she could not go for help.  Finally she decided to stay inside her bedroom and hoped that somebody would come and see her. 

These monsters sat around the corpse and started to tear up the body.

      In time, the body began to decompose and emit a foul smell.  However, it was rather strange for it was different from that of a decomposing body.  While she was thinking about it, she felt the house sink a little.   


      Sensing that something heavy was in the house, she plucked up courage, inched to the door and peeped through a small crack.  To her horror, she saw a huge, hairy, man-like monster sitting next to the corpse.  It had the ugliest face she had ever seen.  And its smell was unbearable!  Then another five monsters came and join him. 

         The house began to sink even more,  until it was only a few feet above the ground.  These monster sat around the corpse and started to tear up the body.  The young widow almost died from fright when she saw this horrible sight.  When she could no longer bear it,  she decided to run away.  Carefully, she removed the floor which gave way quite easily.  Then quietly, she let herself out and fled for her life.

     When at last she reached her parents' home,  she was so exhausted she painted on the steps.  It was almost dawn when the neighbours found her.  Her mother was shocked to see her daughter lying on their doorstep.  Her face was pale and she looked very weak.  They carried her into the house and tried to revived her.  When she finally woke up, she told them about her terrible experience.  One of the villagers suggested that they must kill these monsters before they came to their village and attacked them.

     The next morning, a few strong men were selected to go and kill these creatures.  They armed themselves with spears and other weapons.  But upon reaching the house, they found nothing there.  Even the dead body was gone.  The whole place looked deserted.  They did, however, see several graves around the house.  To this day no one can explain what actually happened.
